Seve Ballesteros Golf Clubs

Seve Ballesteros was 22 years old when he won the 1979 Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club. This was his first Major Championship.

On the 16th, he sliced his tee shot so far right that the ball finished among some cars that weren't supposed to be there. From this position, he managed to make a birdie, winning the Championship by three shots from Jack Nicklaus and Ben Crenshaw.

When the Open returned to Lytham, in 1988, all people could remember was his infamous 1979 “parking-lot birdie”. Coming to the final round, Nick Price had a two-stroke overnight lead and played a fantastic two under par final round of 69.

This year, at the 16th, and in stark contrast to 1979, Seve played a 1-iron down the middle, then a 9-iron to three inches, before tapping in. His final round was a 6 under par 65, giving him a winning margin of two shots.

Seve was quoted as saying, “It is the best round of my life. I played as good as you can hope to play this game.”

Sadly, this was his last Major Championship. Seve, as the result of a brain tumor, passed away in May of 2011 at aged 54.

The pictures on this page are of the irons he used to win that last Open Championship in 1988.
